About the Health Warriors Network

How will the Network Support Aboriginal Learners?

The Health Warriors Network is a community and research shows that strong, supportive communities are critical to improving academic achievement and career expectations. More precisely, our project provides educational supports to First Nation, Métis, and Inuit learners and use social networking to enable learners to ask questions, express their concerns, and share their experiences with others.

Through discussions with Aboriginal post-secondary students, we learned that they often face significant life challenges. These challenges include finding appropriate housing, finding daycare for their child while they attend classes, and finding Aboriginal student support centres and resources. Our Network offers users this information and, through the social networking function, it affords learners an opportunity to ask questions, express their concerns, and share their experiences with others.
